Quintessential Beach Town with a Party Vibe

Ask anyone for recommendations as to which neighborhood to pick if you're moving to San Diego, and Pacific Beach (or PB as the locals call it) will definitely be on the list. Although there will be a caveat that it's best if you're in college or early 20s and like to party.

That being said though, I know people of all ages and all walks of life living in PB and loving it. One of the best things about PB is that it has direct access to two types of water: the ocean and Mission Bay. This means if you want a chill paddleboard vibe, you can hit Mission Bay, or if you want to surf, you can head to one of the many beaches in Pacific Beach.

But PB isn't just about the waves and the sand, it's also a foodie destination with countless dining options, 5,000 tatoo parlors, lots of gyms, eclectic shops, tons and tons of bars (with college kids partying in them), and about a million coffee shops.

If you're looking for a quintessential beach town experience where you can get to know your neighbors and have that small town local vibe, PB might be a good place for you.

Crown Point

Crown Point is a peninsula that sticks out into Mission Bay. It is bordered by Mission Bay on 3 sides and has it's own little strip of shops and restaurants. Many of the streets are nothing but potholes, but it might be worth putting up with it to have the walkability along the bay as there is a walking path that goes all along Mission Bay.
North Pacific Beach

North PB is the area north of Beryl and west of Lamont and shares a northern border with La Jolla. Because of the proximity to La Jolla, this area is a higher priced area in PB. Some of north PB is on a hill and has some amazing views of the ocean and/or Mission Bay. There is also a strip of restaurants and businesses on Turquoise Street which creates good walkability in this area.
Mission Beach

Mission Beach is in the same zip code as PB, but is most definitely it's own area. This is a small stretch of land that has the ocean on one side and Mission Bay on the other so that most homes in Mission Beach are a block or less from water. This is the highest priced area in PB, but it has also had some coastal flooding in recent years. There are shops, restaurants and coffee shops lining Mission Blvd. Parking here is a royal pain in the butt on weekends and especially during the summer.
